Dixon Witherspoon has worked with his brother John in the SCUBA department since the late 1980s and attended his first DEMA in 1989. Dixon was certified as a YMCA Open Water Diver in 1976, and an Advanced Open Water Diver in 1990. He made his last dive on the USS Vandenberg in Key West.
In January of 1982, Dixon began his association with Gale, Smith + Company. The following year he graduated from the United States Fidelity & Guaranty School of Insurance. In the late 1980's, Dixon earned his CIC designation from the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors, a Professional Continuing Education Program. In 2008 he and the other stockholders of Gale, Smith sold to Arther J. Gallagher. Dixon is currently the Executive Vice President and CFO of Witherspoon & Associates.
Dixon served on the Board of Directors of the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers (CIAB.com) from 1997 to 2000 and 2000 to 2003. He is active in local civic organizations, including being a past board member of the American Heart Association. He also served on the Vanderbilt University Parents and Family Association Advisory Board and the Baylor School Alumni Board.
Dixon is a Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church and currently serving on the board of Double Impact, a Christian based mentoring and mission program.
